Position Title: Help Desk Support Technician

Hudson Cook, LLP, a financial services law firm, seeks an experienced Help Desk Support Technician to join the Firm’s technology team, based in and primarily supporting the Washington, D.C. office.

The Help Desk Support Technician is an information technology professional that diagnoses and resolves hardware, software and network issues for the Firm’s end users. The Help Desk Support Technician must clearly communicate technical solutions in an end-user manner and collaborate with the Firm’s third-party vendors, when required. This position will receive direction from the Firm’s IT Manager.

Essential Duties

  • Respond to requests for end user technical assistance in person, over the phone, or electronically.
  • Assist with the maintenance and administration of computer networks and related computing environments, including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, and other network or system problems related to office infrastructure or end-user needs, including working with the Firm’s third-party vendors when necessary.
  • Coordinate repair of hardware covered by third-party vendor maintenance agreements and may include performing minor repair of hardware not covered under agreements.
  • Facilitate required hardware, software or system purchases required for the Firm.
  • Assist with configuring new hire accounts, software, and systems. Conduct new hire training on Firm software, systems, security protocols and phone systems, where applicable.
  • Maintain and upgrade software packages on end user systems.
  • Manage the firm’s content storage, sharing and collaborative platform.
  • Assist with the collection, maintenance, and electronic production of client materials in connection with client investigations and litigation.
  • Remotely support attorneys and staff in satellite offices, as required.
  • Perform other duties or assignments as directed by partners or members of management.
  • Based in the DC office, but able to work from the DC and Maryland offices, as needed.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Associate’s degree or technical school with certifications preferred.
  • Minimum three years’ experience in computer support and systems maintenance or an equivalent combination of education and work experience preferred.
  • Solid technical background and knowledge of IT operations, workflow processes and procedures to resolve inquiries independently.
  • Fundamental operations primarily of Windows OS, Microsoft Office 365, and mobile iOS.
  • Programming/Scripting knowledge and experience a plus.
  • Experience with VMWare Horizon or other VDI environments a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to a varied audience.
  • Independent judgment with the ability to exercise a high degree of discretion.
  • Strong problem analysis skills. Adept at learning new skills, systems and software.
  • Organized with the ability to prioritize and manage conflicting priorities at any given time.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

Primarily medium work in an office setting, sitting for extended periods of time at a desk or workstation. Periodic movement about the office to support end users and troubleshoot equipment. Occasional lifting (overhead, waist level) from floor up to 50 pounds, with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Frequent near vision use for reading and computer use. Communicating with others to exchange and comprehend information.
